2023 Produce Show September 16th

It was great to have the show back, our first since Covid interrupted what used to be an annual event. We were delighted with the support shown to provide a beautiful display in the hall that was enjoyed by members and visitors alike. There were over 200 high quality entries and these photos kindly taken by Anita Harper give a "flavour" (!!) of the day, including - on the second page - the presentations and some behind-the-scenes shots of the judges, scorers and scorecard writer all hard at work:

2023 Spring Coach Trip

We all enjoyed our day out at John's Garden Ashwood Nurseries on Wednesday 19th April, please see our blog for the full report but here are photos taken by our members of the different aspects of the garden that they enjoyed, either taken during the guided tour or afterwards:

2021 Members' Spring Gallery

Finally spring has arrived after a rather slow start and here are some lovely photos that some of our members have shared. Thank you to Pam, Rosalie, Sylvia and Val for lifting our spirits with these, as always the slideshow option gives you the best view.

2021 Members' Snow Gallery

This month after several more white days we have a super collection of photos from our members, mostly of their local walks, with livestock and pets in the snow also featuring! If you hover your cursor over each thumbnail view you'll be able to see where it was taken, then slideshow allows you to appreciate each one fully. Next month we're sure we'll return to pictures of our gardens but these are wonderful to enjoy at the moment. Many thanks to Anita, Sophie and Rosalie - also I keep forgetting to mention that some months your editor does slip in the odd one or two...

2021 First Members' Gallery of this Year

With properly seasonal weather we are pleased to bring you this first gallery of 2021 - a great selection of photos with a few from the autumn (including the return of Frida!) then most of the snowy scenes are from members' gardens, plus four from Hednesford Hills. Thank you to Chris, Lesley, Rosalie, Sophie and Sylvia for sharing these with us. Enjoy your slideshow!

2020  Members' December Gallery

Here we have our last gallery in this very strange year....a taste of Christmas present and past (including our 2019 social evening & displays at Packwood & Shugborough Houses), plus some colourful autumn and crisp winter scenes from members' gardens. Thank you to Sylvia for 2020 Christmas present, the winter shots & 2019 social evening; to Rosalie for the National Trust photos, and to Amy & Lesley for the reminder of our very recent autumn, a productive vegetable garden & an impressive spider plant! Please click on the "show slideshow" tab to see them all their full glory. And many thanks to everybody who has opened up their gardens to us all via their photographs during this challenging year. Here's to a very much better 2021 when we can hopefully all meet up again.

2020 Autumn on Cannock Chase

Many thanks to Sophie for sharing the photos to create this gallery, all taken whilst exercising the very photogenic Frida on Cannock Chase. The variety of fungi is amazing, also the wonderful views and colours at this time of year. How lucky we all are to live close to this Site of  Special Scientific Interest, enjoy your slideshow!

2020 November Members' Gallery

Thank you to June, Lesley, Rosalie and Sophie for this gallery which includes photos taken a little earlier in the year. There are two examples of cloud pruning, one each from June & Lesley, plus two sets of before-and-after treatments from Lesley's garden - one involving lifting the crown of conifers to allow light and space for underplanting, and the other showing the difference that a good tidy round can make! They're all on the second row. Again we suggest using the slideshow tab to appreciate fully the delights that they have all shared with us.

2020 Second Members' Gallery

Credits for our second members' gallery go to Chris, Ivy, Lesley, Lora, Pam, Rosalie and Val for pictorial delights from their gardens for us to share - thank you all. We have kept the number to 20 this time so that they are all on the first page, we suggest using the slideshow tab for best viewing. Enjoy your virtual tour!

2020 First Members' Gallery

Thank you to Mark & Elizabeth, Pam, Rosalie and Sylvia for sharing photographs of their gardens and wildlife, for our first members' gallery, to keep us in touch until we can all meet together again.  Some of the photos go back to the start of lockdown when our gardens really uplifted us through those gloomy days. We have had to face challenges brought on by the erratic weather as well as those presented by Covid-19, and here are some excellent responses to those challenges - there are 20 on the first page, please don't miss out the second page! (click on the arrow or number 2)

2019 Autumn Coach Trip

How lucky we were with the weather for our last coach trip of the year! Please see blog for a report of this lovely day out in Shropshire. The first 20 photos here give an idea of the delights that awaited us at Wildegoose Nursery, and the next 20 (on the 2nd page - click on the arrow or the number 2) are from Morville (mostly of the Dower House gardens).

2019 Annual Show Saturday August 10th

We were delighted that our show was well supported by both exhibitors & visitors despite the weather (again!) and change of date, with similar entry numbers to last year and a really lovely display - please see reports on either the blog or show pages. Thank you to everybody who entered or helped - these photos kindly taken by Maurice Allden are of the show before & after the judging. There are 2 pages so don't miss the second one!

2019 The Garth Evening Visit 18th July

We enjoyed a lovely evening outing to this delightful garden - please see report on the blog page. Click on the arrow or the number 2 after the first 20 photos to see the last few!

 2019 OPEN GARDENS WEEKEND

This super fundraising village event was held on the 15th & 16th June - please see a report on our blog page. Here are some more photos although not many with people on as they were all sheltering from the rain when the camera came out. There is now a second page, please click on the arrow or the number 2 after the first 20!

2019 Hellebores Spring Coach Trip

Our first outing of this year was to Hazles Cross Farm Nursery in the Staffordshire Moorlands to see Mike Byford's national collection of hellebores - please see our blog page for more details. Many thanks to Mike & Tricia for their warm welcome Here are some other photos of the day with hopefully more to follow:

2018 Annual Show
We held our show on 8th September & it was a fantastic display with 269 exhibits, up over 30 from last year, despite rain on the day & a challenging summer of drought! Thank you to everybody who entered & helped make it such a successful day. These photos kindly taken by Maurice Allden & Anna Stanley are of the show before & after the judging, including presentations & visitors. Please click on the right-hand arrow or the Page 2 icon under the first set of pictures to see them all. There are further details in our blog.

2018 Lilac Cottage Open Garden Evening

This event is described in our blog and here are some more photos taken by Chris of the evening itself & a few earlier in the week in case the weather was unkind to us, which luckily it wasn't!

2018 Calke Abbey Spring Trip

We had our first coach trip of the year on the 2nd May to Calke Abbey when the day improved rapidly after early morning rain.

2017 Powis Castle Visit

We had our last coach trip of the season to Powis Castle on 27th September, when the gardens were full of autumnal colour and very atmospheric in the misty weather. There were two tea rooms to choose from & some members also took the opportunity to go inside the castle when rain arrived later!

2017 Annual Show

Our 7th Garden & Home Produce Show on 9th September was our most successful yet. We had over 230 exhibits which made a beautiful display in the village hall that was enjoyed by entrants & the visitors who came along in the afternoon to look round. The home made cakes available with the teas went down well too! A big thank you to everybody who supported the show and helped out both on the day & beforehand.

2017 & 2016 Wollerton Visits

Members and visitors thoroughly enjoyed the June trip to Wollerton Old Hall. The weather forecast was for rain and cold all day. Luckily there was only one shower and the day was fine for perambulating about this lovely early summer garden, the peonies in particular were delightful and the blossom on many of the trees was spectacular. In the afternoon the head gardener took members on a tour of the roses in the garden. A return visit in the autumn would be well worth considering.

2016 Meynell Langley Trial Gardens Visit

The evening trip on 6th July to Meynell Langley Nursery and Trial Garden was lovely. Rain threatened all evening but it remained dry. The tearoom is delightful and the tea and cakes delicious. The whole evening was informative and the quality and range of plants available was well worth another visit with an empty car boot. The coach was swaying with many different plants on the return journey.
